South Africa is a developing country & the majority of people live under the poverty line. Due to a lack of education & funds to call out snake removal experts, most of the snakes people find end up like this.
We have therefore started a volunteer snake removal and education programme .
Members of the community can call us out to remove their unwanted snakes. Often during these “removals” crowds of onlookers gather around to watch the excitement. We take advantage of this opportunity to educate the crowds on the vital part that snakes play in our ecosystem and how they can live peacefully alongside them. The snakes are then moved to a national park within 20km of their capture.
This unfortunately costs between $5 and $10 per removal, which due to our limited means is difficult to fund. This is where you can help spare the lives of countless snakes and educate hundreds of people by donating $5 to this worthy cause
Here are two more examples of what happens to snakes when they come across uneducated humans. Both Photos are courtesy of Chris Hobkirk of the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency.
