General: The Cape File Snake has long been sought after because of its beauty and rarity. This is a terrestrial Snake that is especially prevalent in Savannah. As with other file snakes the body has a distinctly triangular shape and the scales are keeled. The Dorsal scales are white and the rest of the snake is dark with a purple sheen in some specimens. They constrict their prey which includes lizards and other vertebrates but their prefferred prey is other snakes.
This snake is found in Southern Africa where it grows to an average of about 1 metre although a maximum of 2 metres can be attained. These are shy snakes and are known for tucking their heads away when threatened, they rarely if ever bite.
