General: Kenyan Sand Boas originate from Egypt, Sudan , Ethiopia, Kenya, Libya, Yemen, Chad, Niger, Tanzania and Somalia. They ambush their prey by laying submerged in the sand and waiting for it to come by. They are small boas and only reach an average adult length of between 15 and 30 inches. Females grow larger than males.
Enclosure: Your Kenyan Sand Boa requires about 2 square feet of floor space in its enclosure. The enclosure should be escape proof and need not be furnished with hides as it is a burrowing species. A water bowl should be provided.
Substrate: As Kenyan Sand Boas are a burrowing species they require 3-5 inches of substrate to burrow in. A mixture of sand and soil works best for these snakes to create their own burrows. Mix a little bit of water to the mix to help form stable burrows.
Feeding: Kenyan Sand Boas can happily live on a diet of rodents. Feed one appropriately sized prey item every 7-10 days.
Cleaning: Clean and disinfect your Kenyan Sand Boas Cage thoroughly at least once a month and remove fecal matter as it appears. Always make sure there is fresh water available.
