General: The Burmese Python (python molurus biuittatus) originates from south east Asia and Indonesia. It is a large snake and can easily reach lengths in excess of 18 feet and can weigh 200 pounds. Burmese pythons can live about 25 years. Morphs are available for this snake such as albino, green, labyrinth, tiger and granite.
Enclosure: Adult Burmese pythons are large and must be kept in custom built enclosures no smaller than 8ft X 4ft X 3ft but larger enclosures are preferred. A bath should be supplied for your Burmese python to soak in and as with all snakes a hide or two should be provided.
Substrate: Newspaper can be used as well as Astroturf and aspen shavings. Care must be given not to feed snakes on wood shavings to prevent ingestion which can lead to intestinal blockages.
Temperature and Humidity: A daytime ambient temperature of between 85 and 90 degrees F is required with a hot spot of up to 93 degrees. Nighttime temperatures can fall to as low as between 75 and 80 degrees. Burmese pythons require a humidity of around 65%.
Feeding: Hatchling Burmese pythons can already start on small mice every 4 days. Adults require larger rodents such as rabbits which it can be fed every 10-14 days. If fed too much these snakes can lean towards obesity which is not good for the snakes health.
Cleaning: Clean your Burmese Pythons enclosure and disinfect thoroughly at least once a month. Remove fecal matter as it appears. Always make sure clean water is available.
